Mr Field's Steam Circus (Dobbies) (circa 1870)

Mr Field's steam circus is believed to date from the late 1870s, making it the world's oldest surviving mechanically driven fairground ride. The set of platform horses, or Dobbies, is the forerunner of the Gallopers.

The ride spent its working life in Ireland, mainly at Tranmore, and has been restored over several years, with the fitting of a Savage centre engine and an 1880s Gavioli trumpet barrel organ.
